Balancing Dreams and Responsibilities

Running a business is never just about selling products. Behind every small business, there's a story of sacrifice, resilience, and hope. For me, building my candle business has been a journey of balancing dreams with the everyday responsibilities of providing for my family. Today, I want to share a little bit of that journey with you.

It's been hard. We started doing well, and things were kicking off until a change in income altered our circumstances at my non-profit job. I am not just a business owner; I also work for a non-profit organization. Recently, I was pushed down to part-time due to funding issues. This created a huge domino effect: lower income, less financial stability, and more stress at home. Because of my previous income level, my son's SSI benefits were reduced drastically. Now, I no longer make the same income, and I am left with less money to cover the bills, keep my candle business running, and provide for my family. We applied for extra assistance, but it didn't make much of a difference.

The Struggles of Everyday Life

I am now struggling to keep up with my kids' activities, like taekwondo fees, provide extra household supplies, and make sure we stay afloat. I'm stuck with high bills, a heavier load of stress, and moments where I feel drained and hopeless. This is where I should be making more candles, leaning into my dream, and finding different ways to support my family—but honestly, it's been hard.

Although I entered a job program to find another job, I am still left with high levels of stress about financial stability and keeping a roof over our heads. What I'm learning through this is that a backup plan is always needed when life shifts unexpectedly. But I am also realizing that I am very resilient, and I do have the strength to face this head-on.

The Vision Behind My Candle Business

I plan to keep working on my candle business because, even if things are hard, I don't want to give up on it. I've had a vision of my candles bringing people happiness—a scent that reminds them of something good from their past or the simple comfort of lighting a candle after a hard day to feel peace and relaxation.

This candle business means so much more to me than just making products. It's a reflection of my purpose, my hope, and my love. Above all, it's an inspiration to my kids—showing them that even when life is tough, you can start from nothing, build something meaningful, and still succeed.

Finding Strength in Community

If you're also balancing your dreams with family responsibilities, know that you're not alone. We all have moments of struggle, but they don't define us—our persistence and vision do. If my story resonates with you, I invite you to share your own journey with me.

Bringing Light into Your Space

If you feel called to bring some light into your space, my candles were created with the intention of comfort, peace, and hope—the same things I hold onto every day.

In this journey, I have learned that every challenge can lead to growth. Embracing the process is essential. The road may be rocky, but the destination is worth it.

The Importance of Resilience

Resilience is not just about bouncing back; it's about moving forward. Each setback teaches us valuable lessons. We learn to adapt, to innovate, and to find new paths. My candle business is a testament to this resilience.

Conclusion: A Journey Worth Taking

As I continue on this path, I remind myself that every candle I make is a symbol of hope. It represents not just my dreams but also the dreams of others. Together, we can light up the world, one candle at a time.

If you're inspired by my journey, I encourage you to pursue your dreams, no matter how daunting they may seem. Remember, your story matters. Let's support each other in our quests for happiness and fulfillment.
